What Is Your Purgatory?
What is purgatory? I think we all live in our own sort of purgatory, that place of waiting between what was and what will be. But waiting is half the fun sometimes. There can be great joy in waiting and you should embrace it. It is in the waiting that you actually see what is right in front of you. It is an unfortunate fact that sometimes people are so focused (myself included on occasion) on where they are going that they don’t actually see life passing by without them.
The next time you are stuck in line at the grocery store, traffic, etc…it’s not like you can do anything to make the line go faster, so take a breath. Instead of grousing about it taking forever, take the opportunity to look around, make fun of the checkout counter magazines, smile at the child in front of you, or just run through a mental list of the things in life that give you happy thoughts. Don’t limit your thoughts to the usual family, loved-ones, playing basketball if that is your thing, though those are great examples. What about imagining your last delicious Five Guys hamburger or grilled portabella mushroom-burger (Yes, I like food). Remember your first day at your dream job, or your last if that’s better. Whatever you think about, the point is to enjoy your own bit of purgatory on a daily basis. Remember, and this is not mine so I will use quotes, “Good things come to those who wait”. – James O. Barnes
